A delicate issue

Elections are round the corner. Every smaller incident is given prominence than it deserves. Take the example of rape slur on a Congress MLA. As soon as a girl filed a complaint at a police station, the BJD leadership came out to take political mileage.

Till that day, these leaders were finding difficult to take a position on sexual harassment as Speaker of State Assembly as well as BJD leader Maheswar Mohanty faced a similar kind of slur.

While the issue of sexual harassment appeared to have caused temporary titillation for political leaders, they have never shown any kind of seriousness to address the concern. No political party has come forward to suggest any policy level measure to nullify the chances of sexual harassment at workplace.

Promising spinner

Pragyan Ojha has brought much cheer for Orissa recently when he was selected to Indian team for Bangladesh tour. He is a promising spinner and has been performing well in domestic circuit for couple of seasons now.

His recent performance in IPL must have boosted his chances for early call. Ojha is young and energetic. Moreover, he is fortunate that he has got national call very early in his career.

If he fails to perform, then the golden chance will be spoiled forever. Ohja should learn from his predecessors Debasish Mohanty as well as Shiv Sundar Das who were also given chance at right time but failed to convert it in their favour.

Biranchi Das case

The way media and police are being misguided to stride on ever emerging threats related to Biranchi Das murder case, it is for sure after a few months there may be a news floating around whether the judo coach was really murdered or not. Some one may come up with a twist in the story on the line of ‘Saas Bahu’ serials to claim the person murdered may have been the persons claimed to have been murdered. In a planned manner the case is being weakened to let the criminals involved in the murder get acquitted by the court of law in this case. The first phase of this effort is to puzzle up the whole issue. The miscreants seem to have succeeded in their efforts till now.

Promote language skills

The youngsters are losing their language skills due to the SMS and e-mail lingo now popular with them. They can easily use standard English words during chatting on the net or sending an SMS. But they rarely do so. If one watches youngsters chatting on the net, one can easily feel they are trying to forget basic norms of syntax and spellings of words. As a teacher I come across same SMS and chatting lingo being repeated by students even in their answer sheets. At least the parents can promote their children to write words in full when they chat on the net.

If the children increase their typing speed slightly they may not have to opt for the short form of words whose misuse is destroying their language skills.
