Moral victory for TDP: Naidu

G.V. Ramana Rao

MYLAVARAM (Krishna district): TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu has described the party’s performance in the byelections as a “moral victory” and “people’s certification of our credibility”.

Speaking to newspersons at his camp at Pulluru crossroads near here, Mr. Naidu said that the party could win the seats in Telangana “despite brazen use of money and muscle power by Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy government”. “We won all the seats we expected to win, but lost at a couple of places because of organisational drawbacks,” he said, adding quickly that in such places too the Congress party’s “misuse of power” had spoiled the TDP’s chances.

Mr. Naidu said that the results were a clear indication of the party’s certain victory in the 2009 general elections, where the Congress would not be able to resort to “this kind of misuse of power ”.

Asked as to what extent he thought Telangana sentiment had played a role in the outcome, Mr. Naidu said it was too early to analyse the results along those lines.
