Karunanidhi’s poem on Sethu project

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Making a strong plea for implementation of the Sethusamudram project, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Sunday said he would not mind renaming the project as “Sethu Ram Project.”

“This is my birthday message for the welfare of the country,” he said in a poem.

“All my life I have worked for the welfare of the country and language.

Respect the trembling voice of mine. Don’t sabotage the project in the name of Rama,” he added.

The Chief Minister said the project as a “historical necessity” to bring prosperity and development of trade in Tamil Nadu.

“We have no option. Sethu Project is a historical necessity,” he stressed.

Mr Karunanidhi said though the DMK Government was able to make many achievements including the enactment of law to make all sections of the society as priests, his heart was filled with sorrow because he was not able to implement Sethusamudram Project, a dream of late Periyar, former Chief Ministers Kamaraj and C.N. Annadurai.
