FICCI team to visit Thailand for summit

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry is sending an 80-member delegation to Bangkok for the India-Thailand Business Summit, beginning on June 6.

The team led by FICCI’s Senior Vice-President Harsh Pati Singhania will identify the potential of sectors like gems and jewellery for enhancing trade and investment, the chamber said in a statement.

It will be carrying a report prepared by FICCI-PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) titled ‘India-Thailand Partnership: The Way Forward’ which saw scope for exchanging skilled manpower in diamond and stone-cutting and cooperation to ensure stable supply of raw materials.

Observing that India and Thailand can also collaborate to upgrade certifying and testing facilities for diamonds and establish joint product design centres, it said the long-term prospects look good with jewellery exports expected to touch $16 billion in 2010.
