BANGALORE: The Swayamvara Trust will organise a matchmaking event for widows on June 14 and 15. The not-for-profit trust has, for the past eight years, arranged marriages for the hearing-impaired around the country. So far, it has enabled more that 1,000 couples hitch up. The founder secretary of the Trust, C.N. Vijayaraj, found his calling when he assisted hearing-impaired students write and pass their Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination, and since then has been working to give people a second chance in life. The Inner Wheel Rotary Club approached the Swayamvara Trust for matchmaking for widows, and the latter will oversee the nuptials too, especially of those from the deprived sections of society.This year’s matchmaking event will take place at Basavakendra, 2nd Main Road, Gandhinagar. Applicants should go directly to the event to register. Those who are physically or visually challenged or live below the poverty line can apply free of cost. Others will have to pay a registration fee. Lunch will be provided free on both days. Once the couples make their choice, they will get a month’s time to get to know each other before they get married in August. The wedding ceremony will be conducted free of cost along with the registration at the office of the sub-registrar.
