THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More police constables will be posted in the areas neighbouring schools in the city to streamline traffic flow and ensure the safety of children. Addressing a meeting of residents associations in the Medical College police station limits on Sunday, police officers said the City Police Commissioner had issued directions to post adequate number of constables in the areas near schools that witness the maximum congestion. Residents complained that there had been no effort to resolve the traffic problems at Plamoodu, Kumarapuram, Murinhapalam, Arya Central School and Medical College junction. They urged the police to check unauthorised collection of contributions, rag pickers and migrant beggars in residential areas. The meeting came to the conclusion that the Maithri night patrolling scheme had been a success. President of the St.George Lane Residents Association Mahesh Kumar presided. Residents who participated in a Maithri meeting of associations in the Museum police station limits called for steps to check parking of vehicles for extended period at the Sasthamangalam and Vellayambalam junctions and adjoining byroads. They urged the police to ensure pedestrian facility for children on the Edapazhanji road. President of the Temple Road Residents Association K.P.Jayachandran presided.
