Chandigarh: The Haryana Government is all set to increase production of milk and dairy products by involving more and more women in dairy development in the State. Stating this here on Monday, an official spokesman said the women dairy project programme was being implemented in the districts of Ambala, Kurukshetra, Jind, Rohtak, Faridabad and Sirsa, benefiting 10,000 women through 200 exclusive women dairy cooperatives. The districts of Rewari, Mahendergarh, Sonepat, Bhiwani and Jhajjar were also likely to be covered under the programme during 2008-09, he added. The spokesman said that women dairy cooperative societies were being provided financial assistance for the purchase of Milko Testers and Authomatic Milk Collection (AMC) Units. Out of a total of 1,300 women cooperative societies, as many as 958 societies had purchased milko testers/AMCs with the financial assistance provided by the government. GrantUnder a scheme of the Central Government, a 75 per cent grant was also provided for the purchase of bulk milk coolers, he added. He said that Rohtak milk plant was being expanded at a cost of Rs.19 crore to increase its milk handling capacity. The expansion work would be completed in three phases. “The first and second phases have already been completed and work for the third phase is in progress,” he added. — PTI
