Pollution control awards declared

BPCL Ambalamugal refinery, NTPC unit bag honours


Both units come under large-scale industry category

Special mention for Koyilandy, Attingal municipalities


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Ambalamugal refinery of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and the Kayamkulam unit of National Thermal Power Corporation have won the annual award instituted by Kerala State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) for ‘excellence’ in enforcing pollution control measures. Both these units come under the category of large-scale industries. Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy announced the awards.

Binani Zinc Limited at Aluva and Hindustan Unilever Limited at Tatapuram in Kochi shared the first place in the category of other large industries.

The second place is for Skol Breweries Limited at Poolani in Thrissur district and the third place is for Hindustan Latex Limited at Peroorkada in Thiruvananthapuram.

The following are the other winners:

Medium-scale industries: Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited at Aluva and United Breweries Limited at Kanjikode (sharing first place), Herbal Isolates (P) Limited at Vadavucode in Ernakulam district (second place) and KSE Limited at Konikkara in Thrissur district and Model TSR Factory at Manganam in Kottayam (sharing third place).

Small-scale industries: Victory Granite Metals at Varakkara in Thrissur district (first place), ERCMPU Limited at Ramavarmapuram in Thrissur district (second place) and Moopan Motors Private Limited at Nettoor in Ernakulam district (third place).

Large hospitals: Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences Limited at Govindapuram in Kozhikode (first place) and Al Shifa Hospitals Private Limited at Perinthalmanna and Edappal Hospitals (P) Limited at Edappal (sharing third place). No hospital gets the second place in this category. The Government Hospital at Parassala and Kerala Health Care Private Limited at Kozhipara in Palakkad district receive ‘appreciation’ in this category.

Small hospitals: Holy Ghost Mission Hospital at Muttuchira in Kottayam district (second place).

No hospitals are named for the first and third place in this category.

Hotels: Coconut Lagoon at Kumarakam in Kottayam district and Marari Beath at Mararikulam in Alappuzha district (sharing first place). No hotels are named for the second and third places.

Local Bodies: Koyilandy and Attingal municipalities get ‘appreciation.’
