Special Correspondent

KADAPA: Four workers sustained severe burns after the office building of Sri Raghavendra Mining and Engineering Works carrying out Pulivendula Branch Canal work at Parnapalle in Lingala mandal of Pulivendula constituency was badly damaged when gelatine sticks stored in it exploded on Monday.

Gelatine sticks, ammonium and nitrate stocks, some LPG cylinders and diesel cans were stored in a room on the office premises. When a worker was cooking in the same room, gelatine sticks exploded and the fire engulfed other inflammatory materials, triggering more explosions. A tractor on the premises was destroyed and nearly 2,000 banana plants were badly burnt, according to the police.

Some houses in nearby Parnapalle village suffered cracks due to the impact of the explosion.

The injured were rushed to the Government Hospital at Tadpatri. Lingala police registered a case.
