HYDERABAD: Several persons driving on the wrong side of roads were intercepted and their vehicles were seized by the city traffic police while observing traffic rule violation-free day on Monday.

Focussing on the safety of pedestrians, correct parking, driving of vehicles by minors and pollution, the police counselled traffic rule violators at several junctions. Over 300 volunteers from different organisations assisted the police by displaying placards and distributing pamphlets containing literature on road safety.

Policemen announced the rules through public address systems at various intersections and stressed on the need to adhere to the norms. The ‘violation-free day’ is observed on the first day of every month.

But this month it was taken up on the second day as the counting of votes of the byelections was held on the first day, on Sunday.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) V.S.K. Kaumudi, went around the city educating the road-users.

The staff of APSRTC organised ‘traffic awareness walk’ from Koti to RTC crossroads and from Rethifile bus station to Clock Tower in Secunderabad.

The RTC depot managers addressed their respective staff members about disciplined driving habits.

Provided with reflective jackets and nose masks, Traffic Wardens intercepted vehicle drivers crossing stop-lines and not wearing helmets. They were counselled about the need to adopt road safety measures.
