Railway Board chairman’s pat for staff

Special Correspondent

BHUBANESWAR: Chairman of the Railway Board Kalyan Coomar Jena has praised the staff and officers of East Coast Railway (ECoR) for their excellent performance during financial year 2007-08. In a letter to ECoR general manager Ajay Kumar Goyal, Mr. Jena expressed hope that the employees of ECoR would also be successful in achieving the target in loading and passenger carrying in the current fiscal.

During 2007-08, ECoR loaded 93.19 tonnes, which was 9.27 tonnes more than last year in spite of disruption on revenue generating K.K. Line.

Comendable job

Similarly, ECoR did a commendable job with regard to passenger traffic by registering an increase of 16.51 per cent.

Further, a new loading point at Lapanga has been commissioned this year increasing loading at Paradip Port to 1066 FWU per day surpassing the previous best of 812 FWU per day.

As many as 25 tonne axle load wagons have also been introduced.

Safety measures have also been improved by closure of 37 level crossings, according to an official release.
