With reference to the letter on the ‘non-availability of facility for last rites’ (Readers Mail, The Hindu dt: 11.3.2008), we write to inform you that we were on the job to form a Trust for this purposes. Now we would like to inform you that we have registered a Trust in the name of Sri Thirumangai Mannan and got it registered on 11.4.2008. Our objective is to help the people who are in need of the services for carrying out the kaaryams from the day one to 12th day and also planning to provide facilities to perform yearly Srarthams. Our contact address: 23, Rajaji Street, Ranganagar, Srirangam, Tiruchi-6. Founder Chairman, Sri Thirumangai Mannan Charitable Trust Srirangam. Provide earphonesThe video/audio systems operated in the long distance buses are pleasure for a few and irritation for the rest, especially during night journey. To satisfy both the section of travellers, cordless earphones can be provided behind all the seats. Whoever wants to hear the audio may use the earphone. M. Gopalakrishnan
Thillai Nagar Include local channelI am a subscriber for Tata Sky. They do not have any Tamil DD channel in their package. When I checked with them they say that “this is all is available.” Is it not compulsory to include a local DD channel in their package? R. Jayashree
Dindigul Road Proper announcements neededA few letters have appeared on the indifferent attitude of the Tiruchi junction staff making announcements on the arrival and departure of trains. I had a personal experience recently. I was at the Railway Junction to see off my cousin proceeding to Nagercoil from Tiruchi by the Guruvayur Express on May 29. At 1.15 p.m. an announcement was made that the Chennai-Guruvayur Express will arrive at 1.30 p.m. But the train arrived only at 2 p.m. No announcement was made for about 45 minutes on the arrival of the Guruvayur Express and this caused anxiety to the waiting passengers. In the meantime, the Mayiladuturai-Tirunelveli passenger and the Chennai bound Guruvayur Express trains had arrived and departed from Tiruchi junction. But no announcement was made about these trains. S. Jayaraj Cantonment Solution, extend train No reservation is possible after August 1, 2008 in the Mayiladuturai-Mysore Express train. The Railway authorities have not decided whether this train should go to Nagore or should continue to go to Mayiladuturai, as at present. The interested persons and politicians of both Mayiladuturai and Nagore are demanding that the train should start and terminate at their towns. One possible solution to satisfy both would be to extend the train to Nagore via Mayiladuturai. Thambras Krishnamurthy Kumbakonam IIIt is appalling to note that the Southern Railway has planned to shift the starting point of Mysore Express from Mayiladuturai to Tiruvarur. Instead of shifting the starting point to Tiruvarur, the railways could start a composition of the Mysore Express from Mayiladuturai and another from Tiruvarur. Both the compositions could be merged at Thanjavur and proceed to Mysore as a single train. Deepa Mayiladuturai IIIThe Nagore-Mysore Express operated on the MG section was suspended after the BG conversion works commenced in the Tiruchi-Thanjavur-Tiruvarur-Nagore sector. Later after the completion of the BG conversion works between Tiruchi and Thanjavur, the train was operated from Thanjavur junction. The train was introduced for the benefit of the large number of devotees visiting Velankanni, Tirunallar, Nagore etc. from Karnataka. The Railways should now operate this train from Nagore to Mysore. Ehsanullah Nagore Do not increase price
Central Government raise petrol prices a number of times. It is an indirect way to effect rate increase in all essential products. I request our Prime Minister, Finance Minister and Petroleum Minister not to increase the petrol prices, whatever loss hit our oil companies, it should be sorted out in some other way. N. Alagappan Tiruverumbur Allow entryFollowing the closure of Reynold’s Road entry near MGR Statue, which absorbed the smooth traffic to a considerable extent, the present traffic diversion is very critical at the four-road junction in spite of the presence of traffic sergeants, near Cantonment Police Control room. As the police beat had been removed at MGR statue junction, many vehicles violate the present arrangement and turn right from the bridge, ahead of the median, including the moffusil buses, which was the primary cause for an accident recently and resulted in the closure of the road. This violation threatens the safety of law-abiding motorists. As the school bells are about to start ringing by the first week of June, more light vehicles carrying students will try to violate this diversion in the neck hours of morning endangering their lives. Considering this plight, the road should be opened at least for light vehicular traffic after the erection of barriers in the road’s entry point. C. Ramalingam
Woraiyur Fence the platformPlatform raising work in Srirangam Railway Station is almost nearing completion to some extent and is very helpful more significantly to old and sick. However, the southern tip of platform No. 1 is comparatively half in its breadth requiring immediately a protective railway fencing across in the other half, to avoid mishaps in general. G. Padhmashree
Tiruvanaikoil Provide pucca buildingThe ration shop (Khajamalai 1-R.1418/5019) and the Tiruchi Corporation reading room in the Khajamalai Housing Colony, where State Government employees dwell, are in bad shape. Indeed, they have become an eye sore to this colony. The ration shop is a hollow block building with thatched roofing. All the essential commodities are stored in this unsafe structure. Pilferage of essential commodities from this shop has been made easier by the mandarins of Tiruchi by not providing a pucca building to the ration shop. Similarly, the reading room is like a dwelling place of “Eskimos.” H. Ghouse Baig Crawford Colony Review bus fareIt is reasonable and justifiable to charge 50 paise extra in the newly introduced city comfort buses. But, it is not reasonable to charge 50 paise extra in the city LSS buses. At the time of introduction, these buses were plying as LSS. Now, they are for name sake termed as LSS. On popular demands, the stopping of these buses have been increased and have become unlimited stop service (USS) buses. Authorities should review the additional charge. P.K. Raman Ayyappa Nagar It benefited noneA gush of rain water which was the result of recent unseasonal rains was all owed by the Public Works Department to drain into Coleroon letting off into the sea benefiting nobody. When the whole State of Tamil Nadu is agitated over Hogenekkal issue and when the nearby Cauvery in Tiruchi is running dry and where multitudes of deep borewells and collector borewells syringe out the already depleted water table, they could have let the water into the Cauvery for the benefit of all. Perhaps illegal sand quarrying was a stumbling block. T.M. Renganathan Srirangam Modernise bus shelterWhen compared to other modern shelters constructed at various parts of the city, the Corporation authorities had failed to modernise the one in front of Anna planetarium. Most of the town buses do not stop here due to the professional competition between the town buses. Condition of this bus stop is worse during night hours as this area is plunged into darkness due to lack of proper lighting. I request the concerned authorities to install proper seating and lighting arrangements and modernise this bus shelter and ensure that all town buses do stop here compulsorily. G. Rajesh Gopal O.F.T. Estate Stop damaging roads The Tollgate-Lalgudi Road stretch was re-laid as part of road relaying works up to Kallagam. During my recent visit to Lalgudi it was shocking to note the huge damage done to the road by sharp edged iron wheels of tractor trailers that are being used in large scale in the area for ploughing. It is not clear on why the authorities are allowing the same without taking any sort of action. The farmers using sharp iron wheels for their tractor trailers should be strictly advised to desist from damaging the road. A solution lies in covering the wheels of the tractor trailer with rubber cushion so that the roads are spared from the present battering. J.Anantha Padmanabhan Srirangam
