BANGALORE: Many petrol outlets in the city reportedly turned away customers who went to fill petrol on Monday. A few days ago, the pumps were selling only branded petrol that cost Rs. 3 more than regular petrol. Non-availability of petrol was more pronounced in the outlets of the Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation. Rajesh Talwar, who went to fill petrol to his car in Basavanagudi, did not get it at a BPCL outlet and he had to go to a Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. outlet in the area. Bangalore Petroleum Dealers’ Association president Bhushan Narang told The Hindu that the association had been representing to the public sector oil companies since a week about the shortage in supply. Although the oil marketing companies had promised regular supply, the same did not materialise, he said. A senior IOCL official said that since Saturday and Sunday were holidays for oil companies, there could be piling up of indents. He denied that there was any attempt by oil marketing companies to pressure the Centre for a price increase. Bangalore Urban Deputy Commissioner M.A. Sadiq said he did not get any complaint regarding shortage of petrol in the city, but he would inquire into it on Tuesday.
