Wants tanks in State filled with water from rivers DAVANGERE: S.K. Bellubbi, who is a Minister in the Bharatiya Janata Party Government, has said that he wants all tanks in the State to be filled with water diverted from rivers so that there will be no water scarcity in villages. It is for this reason he has sought the Minor Irrigation portfolio. In an informal chat with presspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Bellubbi said that he had already worked out a plan in this regard and, if he were to be given the Minor Irrigation portfolio, he would discuss his plan with experts and implement them. Mr. Bellubi He said Bijapur district had five rivers, yet many places, including Bagalkot, were prone to drought and faced drinking water scarcity. When B.S. Yeddyurappa was the deputy Chief Minister in the coalition government, he had released Rs. 83 crore to Bijapur district so that tanks could be filled with river water. Hence, there was no doubt that Mr. Yeddyurappa would give priority to irrigation and water supply, he said. Referring to senior party leader Jagadish Shettar reportedly refusing to accept the post of Speaker of the Assembly, he said that Mr. Shettar had been in the party since the time of the Jan Sangh and would appreciate Mr. Yeddyurappa’s decision and fall in line. Mr. Bellubbi said that the Reddy brothers from Bellary have been made Ministers because they had contributed much towards strengthening the party in Bellary. According to Mr. Bellubbi, the six independent MLAs joined the BJP because they realised that the party had real concern for the poor and was committed to the all-round development of the country. Mr. Bellubi refuted allegations that they had been induced into joining the Government. Mr. Bellubbi had come to Davangere to seek the blessings of the Panchamasali Swamiji.
