CUTTACK: Even after 48 hours of filing a complaint against a railway contractor, for whose apparent negligence two precious young lives were lost in the city, no action has yet been initiated by the local as well railway police till Monday evening. The police inaction is snowballing into a major controversy, as irate locals are planning a major offensive against the railways and the local administration. Two young friends died under tragic circumstances when they hit a dangerously hung plastic rope on a busy lane of the city late on Saturday evening. The rope was used by a contractor to divert the traffic on the lane for carrying some repair work of a railway culvert. “The rope was tied at a dark place and it was not visible. Even no lights were put up at the site, nor there was a signboard or any person deployed at the place to alert the passersby”, allege Chittaranjan Das, a relative of the victim. “We have lodged a complaint with the local police urging to initiate action against the railway contractor under murder charges”, said Sanjay Das, brother of Pramod Das, who died along with his friend Nishith Mohanty. Case of negligenceSimilarly, the relatives of the victim too have filed a case of negligence against the contractor with the railway police. But neither the railway police nor the local police have registered any case yet, Sanjay told The Hindu on Monday. When contacted, the city DCP S. Praveen Kumar on Monday said that efforts are being made by the district administration to take up the matter with railway authorities.
