Four arrested for betting on IPL final

Bangalore: The City Crime Branch police arrested four gamblers late on Sunday night when the IPL final match between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings was still being played. The names of the arrested were given as Ashok Kumar (45), Nataraj (36), K. Arun (23), and Umesh (25).

On a tip off, the CCB police raided a room on the third floor of a house on 80-foot Road, Girinagar 2nd Stage, at around 10.30 p.m. One of the accused Satish Kumar escaped. The police have seized goods estimated at more than Rs. 50 lakh, including a car, a two-wheeler, 13 mobile phones, a laptop, two television sets, one computer, jewellery and Rs. 86,000 in cash and betting slips totalling Rs. 40 lakh.

Drowned

The body of a seven-year-old boy was fished out of a lake near Jigani Industrial Estate, coming under Bannerghatta Police Station limits, on Monday. The victim has been identified as Charan, son of Shivakumar Harpanahalli.

The police said that Charan and his friend Arun Kumar (10) went to swim in the lake on Sunday. Their clothes were found on the bank and the two boys were missing.

Killed in accident

A two-wheeler rider was killed in a road accident on the Ring Road, near Malagala coming under Kamakshipalya Traffic Police Station limits on Sunday night. The police gave the name of the victim as Chetan Raj (21), second year B.Com student of RPA College. The accident occurred when a car rammed his two-wheeler at around 10.30 p.m. on Sunday night. Chetan died on the way to hospital.
