CHENNAI: Veteran educationist and administrator N. Srinivaschariar passed away here on Monday. He was 104. Srinivaschariar, former headmaster of Ramakrishna Math School in Chennai, established the Ahobila Math Oriental Higher Secondary School. He was president of the Ahobila Math school committee for several years and instrumental in the growth of the institution into a reputed school and a centre of Vedic learning. Srinivaschariar started his career in P.S. High school and later served as the bursar of Ramakrishna Mission schools. As teacher at the Ramakrishna mission schools and headmaster of the Ramakrishna North School and the Ramakrishna Main School, he brought in several new initiatives. He took over as the president of the Ramakrishna School managing committee after the passing of Anna Subramaniam and continued to serve the school. Srinivaschariar was born on December 9, 1903. His students got together to celebrate his 100th birthday in 2003. Says K. Natarajan, former secretary of the Ramakrishna old boys association and former English teacher at the Abhobila Mutt school: “He was an exemplary teacher who never got angry but was able to influence his students to achieve very high educational and moral standards.”
