I will not join BJP: Varthur Prakash

Staff Correspondent

‘My support was in the interest of development of the constituency’

KOLAR: After the confusion over a berth in the B. S. Yeddyurappa-led Bharatiya Janata Party was over, independent MLA from Kolar Varthur Prakash visited the taluk office and the city municipal council office here on Monday and issued directions to the authorities concerned to streamline the administration.

He conducted a meeting of officials at the taluk office. “Public in general and farmers in particular should not be put to inconvenience.

All the works related to pahani, khata and other works should be done promptly,” he said.

Students, who visit the office seeking caste certificates and other documents should be given priority, he said.

He counselled the employees to give attention towards pensions given to widows, senior citizens and handicapped people.

Unhygienic suroundings

At a similar meeting at city municipal council, Mr. Prakash took strong exception to the unhygienic atmosphere on the office premises. The office should be maintained properly, he said and directed Commissioner Ramachandra to clean the premises on priority.

Dealing on his favourite subject of providing drinking water, Mr. Prakash asked the authorities to make arrangements to supply water in 40 tankers to the residents under municipality limits.

He also instructed the Commissioner to accord priority for maintaining sanitation in the city by clearing garbage.

Later speaking to journalists, Mr. Prakash reiterated his support to the BJP Government. However, he made it clear that he would not join the BJP. “I will remain as an independent MLA. There is no question of joining the BJP”, he said.

“My support to the government was in the interest of development of the constituency,” he added.
