HUBLI: Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissioner Narayan Nadamani has said that the shootout on the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences premises in Hubli in which KIMS Medical Superintendent Shivanand Doddamani was shot at was a case of “supari” deal. Mr. Nadamani told The Hindu that the accused had given “supari” to a shooter to finish off Dr. Doddamani who had become an obstacle for them. The accused, Bangaresh Hiremath, Vijay Kulkarni and Vishwaprakash Ullagaddimath, had bagged various contracts pertaining to supply of personnel and materials to the KIMS Hospital, to which Dr. M.G. Hiremath (the other accused) was the Director then. After assuming office as Medical Superintendent of KIMS Hospital, Dr. Doddamani had reportedly received several bogus bills for the supply of personnel and materials. He reportedly sent them back seeking clarifications on some issues, Mr. Nadamani said. As Dr. Doddamani had become a hindrance for them in getting bogus bills sanctioned, the accused had developed a grudge against him which finally resulted in the attempt on his life, he said. Dr. Doddamani had survived the attack. Mr. Nadamani said the investigating officers had got clues on the unidentified assailant who had shot at Dr. Doddamani from close range on the night of December 10, 2007. He said that the police were also looking at the involvement of others in the attack and expressed confidence that the shooter would be traced soon.
