Ex-minister, son get lifer for murder

Nawada: Former Bihar minister Aditya Singh and his son were sentenced to life imprisonment by a fast track court here in connection with an eight-year-old murder case.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Vijay Shanker Pathak, who had on May 30 convicted Mr. Singh and his son Suman of the murder of a brick kiln manager Ashok Singh, sentenced them to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 each.

The father-son duo was alleged to have shot dead Ashok Singh and injured a clerk Ratan Singh at Gausa village in Nawada district on February 26, 2000. An FIR was lodged under Section 302 (murder) and Arms Act against them, police said.

Aditya Singh, who was then Minister of State for Animal Husbandry in the Rabri Devi Government, was elected to the Legislative Assembly six times from Hisua seat in Nawada district in the past on Congress ticket and also as an Independent.

Earlier this year he was awarded life imprisonment by a trial court for the murder of Lalan Singh, head of Sakarpur panchayat.

Mr. Singh had challenged his conviction in the High Court and was on bail before being convicted once again in connection with the murder of Ashok Singh. -- PTI
