Geelani under house arrest

Shujaat Bukhari

SRINAGAR: Chairman of the hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani has been under house arrest since Sunday apparently to stop him from attending a function organised in Amritsar to commemorate “Operation Bluestar.”

Confirming that he was not allowed to move out, Mr. Geelani said over phone that the government did not allow him to visit the Indian cities and it exposed its claims that it was a free and democratic country. He said there were many other leaders demanding “freedom” but none of them was being stopped from visiting other cities.

Mr. Geelani had been invited by “Dil Khalsa,” which organised a seminar to commemorate the operation against Khalistan militants.
