Chennai: The UCAL Rolon national road racing championship 2008 for two-wheelers will get underway this weekend at the Kari Motor Speedway Track at Chettipalayam, Coimbatore. The event, being held under the aegis of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, is being organised by MECO Motorsports Pvt. Ltd. and Madras Motor Sports Club, and sponsored by UCAL Fuel Systems and Rolon Chains. The championship will consist of six rounds. The first three will take place at the Kari Motor Speedway Track in Coimbatore, while the final three will be held at the MMST Track, Irrungattukottai, near Chennai. This year will see the introduction of new races in the two and four-stroke categories, including the 500 to 1100 cc Group A bikes. There will be a total of 14 classes. Akbar Ebrahim of MECO Motorsports said, “We are expecting more than 100 competitors from across the country, including 22 for the Superbikes class. We have revamped this year’s event keeping in mind the latest developments in the sport.” Entry forms are available at the office of MMSC at 123/1, TTK Road, Alwarpet, Chennai-18. Ph: 2499 0998. The categories: Group A: Upto 750cc (4stroke, Experts & Novice), Above 750 to 1100 cc (Novice). Group B: Above 210cc to 260cc (Expert, 4 stroke), above 130cc to 165cc (Expert, 4 stroke). Group C: Above 130cc to 165cc (2stroke, Intermediate), Moped upto 65cc (2stroke, open). Group D: above 210cc to 260cc (4 stroke, Expert), above 210cc to 260cc (4stroke, Intermediate), above 165cc to 210cc (4stroke, Intermediate), above 130cc to 165cc (2stroke, Novice), above 130cc to 165cc (4stroke, Intermediate), above 130cc to 165cc (4stroke, Expert), upto 130cc (4stroke, Novice). Schedule: Round 1: June 7-8 (Coimbatore); Round 2: July 12-13 (Coimbatore); Round 3: August 30-31 (Coimbatore). Round 4: Sept 13-14 (Chennai); Round 5: October 11-12 (Chennai); Round 6: November 1-2 (Chennai).
