Hong Kong beckons Indian tourists

Coinciding with the arrival of Indian tourists in China for the upcoming Olympic Games, Hong Kong has planned a series of events between this July and September. Accordingly, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has launched a marketing blitzkrieg in India with the focus on metros to attract tourists and business travellers. “We are targeting Indian visitors and expanding our marketing outreach to southern India also in view of the recent breakthrough in bilateral avia tion agreement between India and Hong Kong. Other similar initiatives will enable us to forge direct and closer relationship with its travel trade and airline partners in India,” said HKTB Executive Director Anthony Lau who was in India this past week along with a strong team to explore opportunities and cement ties with those engaged in the travel and tourism business.

“We want to leverage Hong Kong’s diverse and sophisticated shopping and dining offerings besides its popular tourism attractions like ‘A Symphony of Lights’ multimedia show across the magnificent skyline of Victoria Harbour, Ngong Ping 360 cable ride, Hong Kong Disneyland, Wetland Park, Ocean Park, and other popular destinations,” Mr. Lau added. Talking about the “Hong Kong Summer Temptations”, the event being held between July 1 and September 21 and coinciding with the Olympics, Mr. Lau said that besides enjoying various shopping and dining offers, visitors can play the “Explore Hong Kong Stamp Rally” game to discover Hong Kong’s unique living culture and also participate in the “Visa Million Dollar Lucky Draw”. HKTB already has one office in Delhi and would soon be opening another in South India. “In 2006, a total of 2.94 lakh Indians visited Hong Kong and last year the number went up to 3.17 lakh. This year we hope to cross the 4 lakh mark,” added Mr. Lau.
