GRAND START: R. Mahendravel, District Collector (In-charge), left , inaugurating the Chief Minister’s cardiac surgery scheme in Pudukottai on Tuesday. PUDUKOTTAI: A total of 83 children in the age-group 0-15 years will undergo special cardiac surgery under the ‘Chief Minister’s cardiac surgery scheme’ during the current year. While 40 children have been identified in Pudukottai health district, the remaining 43 children will be from the Aranthangi health district. Stating this while inaugurating the scheme at the Dr. Muthulakshmy Reddy Memorial Government Headquarters Hospital here on Tuesday, Collector (in-charge) R. Mahendravel said that the children were identified during a check-up under the ‘School Health Programme’ conducted in the last academic year. Deputy Director of Public Health, Aranthangi, I. Ravindran said that the children with cardiac ailments would be identified at special camps to be held at all the schools and at the Government Headquarters Hospital in Pudukottai and the Government Hospital in Aranthangi from June 3 to 30. The needy students would be referred to any of the 17 private hospitals notified by the State government or the Government Medical College and Hospitals where further advanced tests would be conducted for ascertaining the nature of their ailments. He said that funds would be released from the State Health Society to the District Health Society to meet treatment expenses. Chief Medical Officer S. Rajaraman and Resident Medical Officer S. Ravi were among those who were present. Distribution of assistance to the needy marked the 85th birthday celebrations of the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi by the cadres of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party here on Tuesday. PerambalurCollector Anil Meshram inaugurated the scheme at the District Headquarters Hospital here on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that 30 children _ identified with cardiac ailments last year, would be treated this year. He also said that a special camp for early detection of cardiac ailments would be held from June 3 to 30 at all the Government Primary Health Centres. Students with symptoms of cardiac ailments would be referred to the weekly screening to be held on Thursdays at the Government Headquarters Hospital. KarurA total of 67 school children in Karur district have been identified for providing cardiac care under the scheme. Of them 44 were in need of immediate heart care and treatment, District Collector T.N. Venkatesh said here launching the scheme. Mr. Venkatesh observed that a screening of all school children in the district resulted in identification of 247 children who required heart care. Sixty seven of them were chosen in the first installment under the scheme.
