NAMAKKAL: The Namakkal district administration distributed equipment worth Rs. 14.40 lakh to 1,200 students who have completed their vocational education through the Indo-US (Indus) project for child labour abolition.

Distributing the equipment at a function here on Monday, District Revenue Officer G. Govindaraj asked the students to start micro enterprises and enhance their quality of living. The Indus Project is running 43 special schools to provide education for the children rescued from the clutches of child labour in the district.

Over 1,600 children are studying in these schools.

Self-help groups have been formed with the parents of the children rescued from child labour as members.

Assistance is being provided to the members to take up income generation activities, he said.
