Authorities told to forge partnership with citizens

CHANDIGARH: Setting deadlines for finalisation of building by-laws, framing policies for multiplexes and warehouses, giving a practical shape to land rehabilitation programme and planning development in different sectors, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator S.F. Rodrigues on Tuesday asked senior officials of the Chandigarh Administration to promote the concept of owner- ship and strengthen the partnership with the residents.

Presiding over a meeting to review the status of different ongoing projects and schemes in the pipeline, Gen. Rodrigues called for vigorously implementing development schemes geared towards a resurgent Chandigarh and maintaining the basic character of the city.

He directed the officers to make the systems more responsive and accountable, free from red tape and bureaucratic hurdles.

Gen. Rodrigues expressed deep concern over delay in finalising building rules and directed that these be finalised and notified without any further delay. Similarly, he fixed the schedule for finalising the policy guidelines for cinema houses with the provision of need-based validation of rules and corrective measures after identifying shortcomings, if any.

On the issue of multiplexes, the Administrator observed that this was a new concept and all the latest innovative techniques and requirements must be incorporated.

He underlining the need for better coordination between the Municipal Corporation and the Chandigarh Administration.
