THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The All-Kerala Bus Operators’ Coordination Committee has deferred the June 5 strike called to protest against the alleged neglect of its demands by the State government. The decision to postpone the strike was taken following a meeting A.K. Abdulla, chairman of the committee, and T. Gopinathan, convener, had with Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas here on Tuesday. Mr. Gopinathan said the Minister had assured the committee that the government would take a positive view of their demands within a week. The Minister promised to convene a meeting to discuss the demands. Mr. Gopinathan, who is also the convener of the Bus Operators’ Organisation, said the indefinite strike from June 24 had not been deferred. “We will proceed with the strike as per the decision taken on May 29,” he said. The bus operators are demanding renewal of permits of all private buses, a review of the introduction of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation services on routes where private buses operate, scrapping of the notification allowing fare concession to students for the entire course period and steps to increase revenue commensurate with the operating cost.
