Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram: Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy has said the State government’s hasty action against the Golf Club here is yet another instance of its lack of collective responsibility. In a statement here on Tuesday, Mr. Chandy said the setback it received in the High Court in a related case reflected its irresponsibility and ineptitude. The government initiated action when the matter was before the High Court. The government’s action disregarding the Advocate-General’s direction was extraordinary and violated his assurance to the High Court on the issue. He said the government should have been transparent in its moves besides observing established rules and procedures. He condemned the government’s approach of challenging courts and the due process of law. Attack condemnedMr. Chandy and Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala have strongly reacted to the ‘murder attempt’ on Sibi Parapayi, Congress leader in Kattapana, and the attack on a United Democratic Front (UDF) demonstration by activists of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M). In separate statements, they demanded that the government issue directions to the police to take strong action against the assailants. Mr. Chandy said the attack on the UDF protest march took place in the presence of local police officials. The miscreants wrested canes from the police to attack the UDF workers. He sought a probe into the conduct of the police officials.
