TIRUPUR: The Rotary Club of Tirupur North and Fulchand Exports have joined hands to renovate the Eswaramoorthy Maternity Centre of Tirupur Corporation at a cost of over Rs.50 lakh.

The health centre, situated in front of Tirupur Railway Station, has been remaining defunct for years.

Inspired by the work taken up by the leading European brand Mothercare and its suppliers here in renovating the T.S. Kandasamy Chettiar Maternity Centre at a cost of Rs.70 lakh, the Rotarians have taken up the work.

District Governor of Rotary International L. Narayanasamy; Deputy Mayor K. Senthil Kumar; Rotary Club of Tirupur North president Thambi K. Varghese and Project Chairman D. Jaganathan and several others took part in the earth breaking ceremony on Tuesday.

According to Mr. Jaganathan, the block would be named after Shantha Ben Fulchand as Fulchand Exports sponsors around 50 per cent of the total project cost. The remaining amount would be raised by the club through donations.

The block will house an operation theatre, 10-bed in-patient ward, intensive care unit, nursing station and toilet blocks.

The club will also donate equipments for operation theatre and furniture for the hospital.

Club secretary V. Muthusamy expressed the hope that the work would be completed in next three to four months.

He appealed to entrepreneurs to donate for the public cause and wards will be named after the major donors.

He also appealed to the Corporation find ways to help the patients and relatives to reach the hospital safely, as the hospital surrounded by roads with thick and non-stop vehicular flow.

He asked the Corporation to conduct a study to put up a foot over bridge or some other arrangements to help the public.
