Train and bus services hit hard by Gujjar agitation

Over 20 trains cancelled, many diverted; bus operations to remain suspended

NEW DELHI: Train passengers continued to be inconvenienced in the Capital on Tuesday as well over 20 trains were cancelled and many others diverted due to the ongoing Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan.

The cancelled trains included the Dehra Dun-Bandra terminus/Nimach-Dehra Dun Express, Hazrat Nizamuddin-Udaipur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Intercity Express, Hazrat Nizamuddin-Indore-Hazrat Nizamuddin Intercity Express, Firozpur-Mumbai Central-Firozpur Janata Express, Hazrat Nizamuddin-Kota-Hazrat Nizamuddin Jan Shatabdi Express and Hazrat Nizamuddin Ahmedabad Gujarat Sampark Kranti Express.

The Hazrat Nizamuddin-Mumbai Central August Kranti Express, Muzaffarpur-Bandra Terminus/Gorakhpur Avadh Express, Udaipur-Hazrat Nizamuddin Mewar Express, Gwalior-Jaipur Intercity Express and Jaamu Tawi-Bandra Terminus Special and Ahmedabad-New Delhi Gujrat Rajdhani Express were also cancelled.

The trains cancelled on the Rewari-Jaipur section included the Delhi Junction-Ahmedabad Ashram Express, Delhi Junction-Jaisalmer-Delhi Junction Express, Varanasi-Jodhpur Marudhar Express, Ajmer-Jammu Tawi Pooja Express, New Delhi-Ajmer Shatabdi Express and Bhuj-Bareilly Ala Hazrat Express.

The Porbandar-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Express, Jodhpur-Delhi Junction Madore Express, Jodhpur-Delhi Sarai Rohilla Rajashtan Sampark Kranti Express, Amritsar-Jaipur Express, Ahmedabad-Delhi Junction Ashram Express and Varanasi-Ranchi Express trains on the Rewari-Jaipur section were also cancelled.

Partially cancelled

Several trains were partially cancelled. These included the Motihari-Porbandar Express and Hardwar-Ahmedabad Express which were cancelled between Delhi Junction and Porbandar and Delhi Junction and Ahmedabad respectively.

The Ajmer-Jammu Tawi Pooja Express and Kishanganj-Ajmer Garib Nawaj Express remained cancelled between Ajmer-Delhi Junction-Ajmer and between Ajmer-Delhi-Ajmer respectively.

Several trains scheduled to pass through the affected section were diverted to run on alternative routes.

The New Delhi-Mumbai-Rajdhani Express, Amritsar-Bandra Terminus Paschim Express, Jammu Tawi-Bandra Terminus Swaraj Express and Amritsar-Mumbai Central Golden Temple Mail were diverted to run via Mathura-Agra-Jhansi Bhopal-Nagda.

While the Jamnagar-Jammu Tawi Superfast Express was diverted to run via Nagda-Bhopal-Jhansi-Agra-Mathura Junction, the Trivandrum-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express and Madgaon-Hazrat Nizamuddin Goa Sampark Kranti Express were diverted to run via Mathura-Etarsi-Manmad-Kalyan-Roha stations.

Bus passengers, too, were a harassed lot as services to Rajasthan remained suspended on Tuesday as well.

Rajasthan Roadways Manager Traffic (Delhi) Mohan Lal Verma said: “About 60 buses on the Delhi-Alwar route via Tejara and Delhi-Kot Putli route via Neem ka Thana and Sikar continued to be suspended.”
