A couple caught in the rain in Chandigarh on Tuesday. Chandigarh: Light to moderate rains lashed a few parts of Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday causing drop in maximum temperature. Heavy showers lashed most parts of Chandigarh in the afternoon after a dust storm. The maximum here settled at 38.8 degrees Celsius, the Meteorological Department said here. In Haryana, Karnal received light showers and the maximum dropped to 34.8 degrees Celsius, five below normal. Ambala had a high of 37.3 C, down three degrees while Hisar registered a high of 38.3 C, also three below normal. Bhiwani recorded a maximum of 35 C. Sirsa, Kalka, Rohtak and Panchkula in the State also received showers. In Punjab, Patiala got few showers and the high there settled at 38.2 C, down two degrees. Amritsar had a partially cloudy sky and received trace amount of rain, but the day was hot at 39.6 C. The Met attributed sudden change in weather to a few systems active over the region. An Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation was active over west U.P. and adjoining Haryana and another such circulation lay over south Rajasthan. They have forecast dust storm or thunder storm with light to moderate rain or thunder showers at a few places in Punjab and Haryana during the next two days. Hail storm likelyHail storm or thunder squall with wind speed exceeding 45 kmph is likely to hit isolated places in the region by Wednesday. PTI
