Jail for former bank cashier
KOCHI: The CBI Special Court, Ernakulam, has sentenced M.P. Rajendra Babu, former employee of Union Bank of India, to two years rigorous imprisonment for misappropriation of funds. A fine of Rs. 1 lakh was also imposed. The accused during his tenure as head cashier at the Pirappancode branch of the bank at Thiruvananthapuram between February 1998 and May 1999, misappropriated deposits of customers and the funds of the bank by showing inflated debits against actual payment. The Cochin branch of the CBI carried out investigations into the case. — Staff Reporter
