Dr. Rajesh Talwar, accused in the Noida double murder case NEW DELHI: A Ghaziabad court on Tuesday granted the Central Bureau of Investigation two days’ police custody of Dr. Rajesh Talwar, arrested by the Noida police for his alleged involvement in the murder of his 14-year-old daughter Aarushi and the family’s domestic help, Hemraj, even as the agency claimed that the doctor was not cooperating in the investigations. The CBI had sought five days’ custody from the special court, submitting that it needed to interrogate Dr. Talwar at length as he had been giving evasive replies. Also, counsel for the CBI verbally urged the court for permission to conduct a “scientific” test on the doctor, which was opposed by the defence lawyer. After hearing the arguments of both sides, the court granted police custody of Dr. Talwar to the CBI till June 5. His lawyer will be allowed to be present near the place of interrogation. After securing his remand, the CBI brought Dr. Talwar to its Yashwant Place office here in Delhi. It is learnt that the agency queried the dentist about his relationship with Anita Durrani, a colleague and family friend. Earlier in the day, Dr. Talwar was taken to his Sector 25 residence in Noida for corroboration of his disclosures relating to the sequence of events before and after the two murders. He was asked to identify the spot where Aarushi’s body was found and give his immediate reaction. The CBI team spent close to 90 minutes with Dr. Talwar in the house. The CBI team has reportedly come across certain contradictions in the statements given by Dr. Talwar and his wife, Nupur, including the dress he was wearing when he is said to have found his daughter’s body. The CBI sleuths have also come across certain anomalies in his statements, including whether he had consumed liquor the night before Aarushi was murdered. On Tuesday, a team of forensic experts again visited the crime scene. The team had earlier extracted a portion of the wall bearing a bloodstained palm impression, suspected to be that of the killer, for scientific analysis. The experts will segregate samples from the impression to identify the blood-group and carry out a DNA test. The forensic experts had earlier used chemicals to study the blood trail at the crime scene. They have preserved the water of a desert-cooler on the terrace in which the killer had washed his blood-soaked hands after the murders.
