Environmental Congress in July

Green Corps has 8,000 Eco Clubs with 6 lakh students

HYDERABAD: The Students Environmental Congress conducted by the A.P. National Green Corps across the State will begin on July 24. After school and division level, the State-level activity has been scheduled from August 17 to 22.

According to APNGC Director W.G. Prasanna Kumar the participating schools will come out with environmental activities and the best institutions at district level will get an opportunity to represent at the State-level. At present the NGC has established more than 8,000 Eco Clubs with around 6 lakh students spread over 16,500 schools.

Network

Green Network, an online programme to document experiences of teachers in the environmental cause has also been launched. “It is a network where NGC Green Teachers can share the school environment activities taken up by them with others,” he says.

From this year, these teachers promoting the NGC Eco Club activities in the schools will be provided a small monthly honorarium of Rs.100. The school level environmental activities of these clubs include management of water, bio-diversity, energy and land use.

As part of World Environment Day on June 5, the NGC this week is organising various activities for students from summer camps. On Tuesday, participating children presented a series of cultural activities at Indira Priyadarshini Auditorium highlighting the status of environment and stressing the need to preserve it.
