BHUBANESWAR: Officers of State Bank of India in Orissa would observe a day’s strike on June 6 demanding resolutions of several long pending issues. The no-work action would coincide with country-wide strike to be observed in 10,000 branches with participation over 60,000 SBI officers. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Ganesh Mishra, General Secretary of State Bank of India Officers’ Association, Bhubaneswar Circle said during last few years the management was taking unilateral decisions regarding implementation of circle redesign, alteration of service conditions and opening of branches without proper infrastructure and required number of staff. “The decisions had affected quality service being provided by the bank while putting the staff under tremendous work pressure. In Orissa, we require at least 600 more officers and 1,800 clerks to manage the banking operation smoothly,” Mr. Mishra said. The association demanded improvement in pension scheme, recruitment of adequate number of officers, proper regulation of working hours for officers and absorption of contract officers in the bank as regular employee. At present, SBI had 3,200 officers and 6,000 clerical staff working in 550 branches across the State.
