Railway, Irrigation Department officials to take part Public Works Minister holds review meeting Thiruvananthapuram: A joint inspection of the canal passing beneath the railway tracks at Thampanoor and the culvert near the Collectorate at Vanchiyoor will be carried out by Railway engineers and the Irrigation Department officials on Wednesday. This was decided at a meeting chaired by Minister for Public Works Mons Joseph at the Secretariat on Tuesday to review the flooding problem at Thampanoor. The meeting was convened to discuss the issues related to flow of water through the canal passing under railway tracks and the culvert near the Collectorate. Thiruvananthapuram Divisional Railway Manager Titus P. Koshy informed the meeting of the various measures undertaken by the Railways in containing flood on the railway track as well as the overflowing of the canal during the previous years. He pointed out that flooding in the Thampanoor locality during heavy rain affected train services as the track got submerged in water. The Divisional Manager assured the Minister that Railways would coordinate with the government authorities to find a permanent solution to the flooding of Thampanoor and East Fort. Mr. Koshy extended all help from the Railways to the high-level expert team set up by the government. The Railways will also give suggestions to solve the flooding of the low-lying areas. Mayor C. Jayan Babu, Senior Railway Divisional Engineer G. Radhakrishnan, Divisional Engineer Balan, Public Works Secretary Tom Jose, District Collector Sanjay M. Kaul, Chief Engineer (Irrigation) and Chief Engineer (PWD) attended the meeting.
