“CM contributed to social justice”
Special Correspondent
THANJAVUR: A major achievement in the life of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi is his contribution to social justice, said Periyar Maniammai University Vice-Chancellor N. Ramachandran here on Tuesday.
Speaking at a meeting organised by the Dr. Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi Political Science Centre at the university to mark the 85th birthday of the Chief Minister, Dr. Ramachandran said that 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in premier institutes like IIT has become a reality.
Sixty nine per cent of reservation for all castes in various opportunities is yet another reality in Tamil Nadu. “Kalaignar himself has taken pride in declaring that the best day in his life will be upholding reservations for OBCs in premier institutes like IIT,” Dr. Ramachandran said.
“It is in all fitness of things that Periyar Maniammai University _ named after Periyar who worked for social justice throughout his life _ is celebrating the birthday of Kalaignar,” Dr. Ramachandran said.
Distance education
He also said that the university has been permitted by the Distance Education Council to start distance education courses from this year. The university office at Thanjavur and its regional offices at Trichy, Chennai and New Delhi will start courses in distance education mode from this year.
