LOS ANGELES: Bo Diddley, the rhythm and blues musician whose choppy rhythm shaped rock’n’roll, died on Monday. He was 79. Playing a box-shaped guitar, he cut a distinctive figure but he never achieved the fame of contemporaries. His single, “Hey, Bo Diddley,” introduced the “shave and a haircut, two bits rhythm” that he made his own. — © Guardian Newspapers Limited, 2008
