VISAKHAPATNAM: Some top leaders and members of the banned CPI (Maoist) were injured in the Gunukurayi encounter in G.K. Veedhi mandal on May 28 and the best medical care would be provided to them if they surrendered, Superintendent of Police Akun Sabharwal said here on Wednesday. “We have strong evidence that top Maoist leaders Jagadeesh and Anil and some others have received injuries in the encounter. We will provide medical care if they surrendered voluntarily at the nearest police station”, Dr. Sabharwal said. He also said the papers and letters recovered at the site of encounter revealed that the Maoists had held a meeting with the Girijans of Gunukurayi and surrounding places before the encounter, appointed some of them as their representatives and entrusted them with some party work. Such Girijans must approach the police and give an explanation, Dr. Sabharwal said. He asserted that the four persons arrested near Velamjuvvi village on May 31 during a combing operations, Korra Bonjibabu, Korra Neelanna, Korra Nookaraju and Korra Sanyasi Rao, were Maoists. There was a definite proof that they were involved with the CPI (Maoist) and their names were found in the papers recovered from the encounter site.
