GUNTUR: For students hailing from rural areas in Guntur and other districts now it is not day-dreaming to get Information Technology-based job in a multi-national company, thanks to the Jawahar Knowledge Centres marginalized sections of society are getting placed in good companies. The Guntur Government Women’s College JKC Centre Coordinator Sasi Bala said with the state-of-the-art equipment in the JKC centres, they had trained about 21,000 students all over the State to fulfil the dreams of parents currently employed as agriculture labour, artisans, rikshaw pullers, small vendors, engaged in farming and people from low income group. Students with basic degree were trained in computer skills and communication skills and more than 4,500 of them got employed in Satyam, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Syntel, HTMT, Reddy Labs, 24/7, Genpact, ICICI and such other corporate giants had promised jobs soon. This is a unique transformation achieved by the JKCs empowering the students of rural background who come out boldly and improve competitive sills and be expressive. Jawahar Knowledge Centre in the Government College for Women, Guntur, has the distinction of training 326 students in the last one year and 148 of them got selected in the corporate sector, a record in the State. A giant in Software Infosys has come into an understanding with CCE and started the Project Genesis to recruit students from rural areas and from economically marginalized sections. The IPG programme launched in all districts helped students through a rigorous training of 40 days in the selection process in January, 2008 by Infosys for their IT and BPO establishments. As many as 1,852 students from Guntur, Krishna, Prakasam and Nellore districts participated in the campus recruitment drive conducted in Guntur Nodal JKC and a record number of 560 were picked up by Infosys. From Guntur district alone 759 students participated in the interview and a record number of 262 (34.5 pc) have been selected by Infosys. The previous best by Infosys in any campus recruitment was 20 p.c. Of the 262 students 30 were selected for their IT sector and 232 for their BPOs. A leading computer manufacturer HCL is conducting a training course in Guntur JKC for a period of four months.
