Eight, including 7 of a family, washed away

ANANTAPUR: Eight persons, including seven of a family, were washed away in the gushing waters of a stream due to the heavy rain overnight near Hirdehal of D.Hirehal mandal in Anantapur district in the early hours of Wednesday.

Only Reshma, a 14-year-old girl, survived by holding onto a thorny bush for four hours.

The bodies of Venkateswara Rao, his wife Laxmikumari, mother Baby Sarojini, brother Madhava Rao, his wife Sathyavani (35), sons Naresh (14) and Lokesh (11) and driver Subramanyam (35) were found near the vehicle in the morning.
