Police identified them as Srikantha Shetty (26), resident of M.B. Nagar, Dharwad, and Umesh (23), resident of Beeranakoppa, Haveri district, and studying MBA at a college in Banashankari.

The two were apprehended when they were attempting to sell mobile phone handsets near Banashankari shopping complex.

On investigation, the accused reportedly told the police that they had resorted to theft to lead a lavish life.

The accused had opened the shutters of S.R. Mobiles in Kadirenahalli using duplicate keys two weeks ago and stolen 30 handsets and Rs. 2,190 in cash.

Whenever they were in need of money, the accused used to dispose of the handsets one by one, the police added.
