SHIMLA: The Himachal Government has decided to extend its mid-day meal scheme to cover the upper primary classes and all government-run middle schools in the State. This was decided at a Cabinet meeting here chaired by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal. The mid-day meals would start from next month for the older students, said an official spokesman. The Cabinet has also decided to introduce scholarship schemes for the Other Backward Classes students from Class I to X on a 50 per cent shared basis with the Central Government. The Cabinet also decided to modify the basic bidding process for various hydro-electric projects in the State. It would be on the basis of upfront premium payment of Rs.20 lakh per mega watt and free power sharing for all projects with a capacity above 5MWs. Hydro-Electric projectThe Cabinet also granted permission for signing a Memorandum of Understanding for the 775-MW Luhri Hydro-Electric Project with Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited on 51:49 ratio equity participation. The Cabinet also sanctioned 6,080 posts of different categories in various government departments, said the spokesman. It consented to permit a change in the location of the Multi-Project Special Economic Zone in Kanga district from the proposed Damtal to Milwan within the same district and consented to sign an MoU with the Reserve Bank of India to restructure the Urban Cooperative Banks in the State. Separate cadreIt approved a separate cadre for the Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Kanga, at Tanda after bifurcation from Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, and from the cadre of the Director of Health and Family Welfare Services with a view to equally strengthening the cadre in both the medical colleges.
