ANANTAPUR: Telugu Desam Party activists obstructed the convoy of Minister for Panchayat Raj J.C. Diwakar Reddy at Bukkaraya Samudram near here on Thursday protesting against the hike in petroleum prices. However, the police intervened and took 50 activists into custody and moved the Minister to district headquarters. It all happened when the Minister’s convoy ran into a dharna being staged by the TDP in Bukkaraya Samudram. Activists of the opposition party led by party leaders K. Srinivasulu, B.K. Parthasarathi, K. Jayaram, P. Shamanthakamani, A. Narasa Naidu and others who were staging a dharna in Bukkaraya Samudram against the hike, noticed the Minister’s convoy approaching on the Tadipatri-Anantapur road and prevented the convoy from moving further and raised slogans against the hike. The Minister also joined the dharna camp and sat along with the protesting leaders and activists. As efforts by the police to clear the activists failed, they arrested them and moved the Minister to Anantapur in their vehicle.
