PUDUCHERRY: A special team of the Puducherry police on Thursday arrested Thavamurugan, a bootlegger allegedly involved in the assault on an Excise team in Mullai Nagar at Kuruvinatham near here, from a village bordering Cuddalore. Thavamurugan, vice-president of Bahour Commune Panchayat, had allegedly led a group that attacked the team of officials from the Excise Department which conducted a raid on May 29. After a pitched battle with the group, the Excise team had seized 16,000 litres of rectified spirit from several houses at Mullai Nagar and 15 persons were arrested.
