MACHILIPATNAM (Krishna dist.): Six members of a family, including three children and two women, were washed away in the Bay of Bengal at Gilakaladindi near here on Thursday afternoon. The bodies of three victims were fished out from the sea by evening.

The tragedy occurred when 14 members of a family, led by family head Gafoor Khan Razwi, 45, proprietor of Khan Jewellers in the town, went on a picnic to the beach at Gilakaladindi. Around noon, Razwi, his wife Noorunnisa, 35, daughter Roshani, 8, their relative Zaheeda Begum, 42, from Farooq Nagar in Vijayawada, her son Moin, 14, and Razwi’s niece Afrin Begum, 12, from Nizamabad, along with a few other relatives ventured into the sea from Bold Fort area for a swim.

While the other relatives reached ashore after a few minutes, Razwi and the five others continued to swim. They were suddenly pulled down by a tidal wave.
