SMS delivery either getting aborted or delayed No significant fault in network, say Airtel officials CHENNAI: BSNL mobile users sending an innocuous message to friends and acquaintances on Airtel’s mobile service risk the label of spammers due to a network error that is delivering the same message over and over again. The problem is occurring both when data traffic moves from BSNL servers to the Airtel network and in the reverse direction. “I stand to lose money for the extra messages sent while recipients find it highly annoying to be bombarded with the same message over and over again,” Mr. Sadagopan said. Delivery of SMS is also either getting aborted or delayed by several hours. A BSNL official said the problem had been conveyed to Airtel as the problem seemed to be embedded in their network. Any problem on the BSNL side would be attended to immediately, he said. A BSNL spokesperson said CellOne subscribers would not lose money for the repetitive sending of messages. However, if the subscriber has opted for the delivery confirmation feature he or she stands to lose 10 paise for each delivery report generated. A section of CellOne users also faces persistent call drops when trying to reach a number of the other network. They are usually attributed to an overheated network. Airtel officials said so far no significant fault had been reported on their network which is served by two major switches — Haddows Road and Anna Nagar. Isolated problems would be looked into if brought to notice. Consumer activist T. Sadagopan, who uses a CellOne connection, said the most affected were calls from BSNL numbers to Airtel numbers. The problem is recurring in Avadi, Ambattur, Pattabiram, Ponammallee and Tiruninravur.
