DSS demands merit seats for meritorious SC students

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (Ambedkar) has asked Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to direct the Common Entrance Test Cell to follow the Supreme Court order while allotting seats to meritorious students belonging to Schedule Castes category.

The State vice-convenor of the samiti, S.R. Kolluru, in the memorandum given to the Chief Minister, has stated that the Cell had been allotting seats to meritorious students belonging to the SC community in the SC reservation category instead of considering their name in the merit list.

Citing the court verdict in the case of Indira Sahani (Mandal), Mr. Kolluru stated that the verdict has asked the State to consider the names of the high-scoring SC students in the merit list and not under SC reservation list. He said since the CET counselling was going on, it was the right time for the government to direct the CET cell to give effect to the court verdict.
