Inner garments to cost 7 per cent more

Staff Reporter

TIRUPUR: Surging inflation and soaring prices of essentials did not spare the hosiery industry. The prices of inner garments will go up by seven per cent in the wake of abnormal increase in hosiery yarn price.

The South India Hosiery Manufacturers’ Association (SIHMA) has announced that the hike will come in to effect from June 1.

All the manufacturer of innerwear, including the branded ones would increase their cost.

In a statement, SIHMA president Mohan P. Kandasamy said that their members had no other option but to increase the prices of various hosiery products due to soaring prices of yarn and packing materials coupled with the rise in finishing charges, undeclared power cuts and hike in petroleum products.

He said that they had unanimously decided to raise the prices of all hosiery products by seven per cent over and above the rates prevailing as on January 1, 2008.
