‘Take up mixed farming to cut losses’

KURNOOL: Minister for Marketing M. Mareppa called upon farmers to take up cultivation of mixed bag of crops to insulate themselves against losses. Addressing Raithu Sadassu at Adoni in Kurnool district on Friday, he advised farmers not to put all eggs in one basket saying they should cultivate food crops also to meet the requirements of the family.
He said the government was doing whatever it could for uplift of farmers. He said special measures would be taken to offer better prices to farmers.
Collector G. Balaramaiah said 400 progressive farmers would be selected in Adoni division for training in modern farm management methods. He said 80,000 quintals of seed of various crops would be distributed at subsidised prices.
According to the Collector, steps were initiated to ensure proper supply of fertilizers. Mr. Balaramaiah asked farmers to go for mechanisation of farm operations to reduce the cost.
MLA Sai Prasad Reddy, Joint Director Ravindra Reddy and others were present. The Raithu Sadassu would be conducted at Kurnool on June 7 and Allagadda on June 9.
